Journal Entry 1

I read the article House Of Memory , the article was published by beliefnet.com. The article is about a wife named Lisa who talks about herself and her daughter Mona one year after her husband Gils passing. I was surprised to learn that he passed away from cancer. I say this because earlier in the article she was talking about driving in the car with him. She also spoke of him being involved in household projects to in the beginning of the article.

I noticed that the writers style is very first person is most of her article. I say this because she is narrating telling what has happend between her husband Gil, her daughter Mona, and herself from her perspective. She also knows how this affected all three of them. Lisa would also know espicially how this made Gil and herself feel.

I would give this article a thumbs up but wish Lisa went into more detail about the one hundred year old house. I would have liked to have know what the outside of the house looked like. How big the house was. What the inside of the house looks like besides the three rooms she describes. Lisa goes into some detail about Mona’s bedroom in Mona’s bedroom above the crib hangs Lisa and Gils wedding ketubah. In Monas bedroom there is also hand painted portraits of Lisa and Gil. In Lisa’s own bedroom she has a steel bed frame. Lisa also feels very safe in her bedroom and works out of her bedroom as well. Lisa avoids the bathroom off of her bedroom though because of the memories she has from there shared with Gil.

In the article I read titled Anxiety by Alyssa Nutting I read about a patient who was seeking anxiety medication. The patient came to a doctors office claiming anxiety only about flying. After speaking to the doctor she admits she also has anxiety about driving as well. She agrees to a medication regimen with the doctor. The doctor prescribes lexapro which is an anti anxiety-anti depressant to take daily. The doctor also prescribes xanax for the light days. Heavy flow sublingual lozenges are prescribed for panic attacks. The theme of the article was medicine and mental health.

I like how the doctor is addressing the patients mental health. I also like how the patient began behavioral therapy. The ideas the article gave me for my memoir was to continue to encourage patients to communicate with healthcare providers. A second idea that was given to me was to remind patients that medications are not always a bad thing.
